Cusco - Lares (Hot Springs) - Wacawasi

Very early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel at approximately 4:30 am. Then we will travel in a private bus for approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes until we reach the hot springs of Lares (3,200 m / 10,496 ft), on the way, we will stop in Calca, a small town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to visit its typical market and buy some items for the trail.
Upon our arrival from the Lares hot springs we will meet the rest of the team, our muleteers. Then we will have the option to swim in the hot springs before we start our trek, the cost of which is 10 PEN (not included), or we will simply prepare our backpacks to start the adventure to the first camp, as most trekkers do. , this will be managed by you and your tour guide. The trail begins a gradual ascent through the highland valley. Today we will have our lunch half way to the first camp.
After lunch, the adventure continues, along this section of the trail we will see some herds of llamas and alpacas, and we will arrive at our first camp located in the town of Wacawasi (3,800 m / 12,464 ft). At the camp after our arrival, we will have our tea time and dinner prepared by our chef.

Wacawasi - Wacawasi Pass- Mantanay Valley

Today we will get up early in the morning with a wake-up tea in our tents (coca tea), and then have our nutritious breakfast that our chef prepared for us for the challenging day. After having breakfast, we will hike to the highest point of the trail called Wacawasi Pass at (4,420m/14,498ft), for about 4 hours from our camp. On this section of the trail we will still see some herds of llamas, alpacas close to us. We will also have the opportunity to see the Andean people who still keep the culture of the Inca ancestors alive, and beautiful panoramic views.
When we reach the highest pass, we will take a well-deserved rest while enjoying the beautiful views of the surroundings and a perfect moment to offer some coca leaves to the spirits of the Andes by making an apacheta (mound of stones piled up as a monument or to mark a boundary or path). We will then walk downhill to reach our lunch spot located near a beautiful lagoon called Aurora Qocha, where we will enjoy freshly prepared meals and hot drinks.
After lunch, we will continue descending gradually to our second camp located in the Mantanay valley, a valley with beautiful Andean trees called Queuña (a typical tree from the highlands of Peru. In the evening we will have our hot drinks and have a delicious dinner.

Mantanay Valley - Yanahuara - Ollantaytambo Town

Another beautiful day awaits us and for it a great breakfast. After having our breakfast, we will begin to descend for approximately 3 hours to Yanahuara, a town located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where we will have our last lunch and say goodbye to our cook and muleteers.
After lunch, we will take our transport to our hotel in the picturesque town of Ollantaytambo, where we will stay this third night, after a well-deserved rest in the hotel, we will go on an exploration of the authentic Inca streets of the same town. At night, we will have dinner in one of the many restaurants that the town has (this dinner is not included).

Ollantaytambo - km.104 (Chachabamba) - Inca Trail Short - Machu Picchu

This day we go very early to the Ollantaytambo train station to then travel to Km 104 “Chachabamba” (2,150 m / 7,052 ft) which is the beginning of our walk along the short Inca trail.
At Km. 104 the train stops to get off and walk to the main control post for the respective registration to enter the place, after the registration we will walk a couple of minutes and we will arrive at the first Inca site called Chachabamba which consists of having temples, the main patio, sacred rock, etc. In which, our guide will provide us with great information about this site. Then we will continue walking gradually uphill enjoying the spectacular landscapes and especially appreciating a great variety of orchids, until we reach the Inca temple of Wiñayhuayna whose meaning is “forever young”, where our guide will give you a great history of the site. After the exploration of the Inca temple, we will have our snacks or packed lunch at the Wiñayhuayna checkpoint. Then we will continue walking to Machu Picchu for two more hours, entering this wonder of the world through the Puerta del Sol, from where we will have the first views of the famous Inca city, and we will take our time to make impressive photographs from this point. Once we arrive at Machu Picchu, we will take our time to take excellent shots of the Inca city, since the afternoon is usually less crowded. Then we will take the bus to the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes) where we will stay in the cozy hotel and have dinner in the restaurant (this dinner is not included).

Machupicchu Exploration Day - Ollantaytambo - Cusco City

This fifth day will be wonderful, we will have an excellent breakfast at the hotel and then prepare for a full morning exploration of Machu Picchu on a private tour with our trek guide. We will take the bus back to Machu Picchu early in the morning for an amazing tour (Machu Picchu permits will be issued for the first group, which is from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm). If you have booked a permit for Wayna Picchu Mountain, you will climb the mountain after the Machu Picchu tour.

After having explored and having a good time in the palace of the Inca emperor, we will take the bus to the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes town), where we will have lunch (not included). In the afternoon we will take the train back to the Ollantaytambo train station and/or the Poroy train station, once we reach this point our transport will wait for us to go back to the city of Cusco to the door of your hotel.

Camping Equipment

  • Dining and kitchen tents, tables, chairs, and cooking equipment (all carried by the horses).
  • 1 duffle bag: There, you can carry your personal belongings (including sleeping bag) up to a maximum weight of 6 kg / 14 lbs.
    All duffel bags will be carried by your porters or horses and will only be available at your campsite every day (morning and evening). Any items that are necessary during the hike should be packed in your backpack.
  • Medical Kit: All PMA TRIPS guides have received first aid training. Your tour guide will always have a first aid kit for basic medical situations (traveler’s diarrhea, altitude sickness, cuts, scrapes, etc.) as well as oxygen. If necessary, we will evacuate you from the road as quickly as possible and ensure that you arrive at a clinic for treatment.

Food

  • Meals: PMA TRIPSchefs cook the best dishes in the middle of the mountain. We respect all food restrictions (vegetarian, vegan or special menus are available at no additional cost), so be sure to add the ones you have on your booking form and let your guide know at your briefing. Food is typically served family style.
  • Wake up tea: Every morning at the camp, you will wake up to a cup of hot drink! Our staff will bring the tea to your store.
  • Tea time daily: Happy hour for tea and snacks! Every evening before dinner, our chefs will provide you with popcorn, hot chocolate, cookies, teas, coffee, hot water, etc. After a long day of hiking, you won’t have to wait until dinner to relax.
  • Snacks on the trail daily: Every morning we’ll give you your snack to enjoy it during the walk; our tour leader will provide you a Cloth bag with local fruits, biscuits, chocolate, caramels, etc. We will give this snack to you at the beginning of each day in your cloth bag.
  • Water: From your first lunch to your last breakfast, PMA TRIPSwill provide all the water you need. This water is boiled, filtered, and then cooled before distributing. You must bring personal water bottles and / or camel back. We recommend bringing around 2 liters. You will be able to refill your water at every meal.
  • Products for hygiene: You will be provided with a small towel before each meal to clean your hands.

Transport

Day 1: You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and travel by private transport to Upis, the starting point of the Ausangate peru trek 2 days.
Day 2: Once you complete the tour, we will take you back to the door of your hotel in Cusco.

Cargo Mules: 
The muleteers are responsible for carrying your luggage on days 1 and 2.
The pack mules carry all the camping equipment and your personal travel bag (7 kgs / 15 lbs).
