Arrival in the city of Cusco and visit to the archaeological sites

When you land in the imperial city of Cusco, you will be greeted by our friendly team who will help you get settled in. Your guide will arrange a welcome meeting for a brief tour briefing.
The city tour is a perfect way to spend your first day in Cusco. It is a relaxing trip that consists of visiting nearby archaeological sites and admiring the surrounding landscape. There’s only light hiking involved, and you don’t need to worry about logistics as we’ve got you covered.
Cusco contains an amazing cultural wealth. This tour is highly recommended to learn more about our culture and the city’s past, which made it what it is today. You will enjoy a visit to the Main Square (Plaza de Armas), where you will find the Cathedral of Cusco. We will also stop at Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun) Convent of Santo Domingo. Later, we will leave the center and go to the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay. Your guide will share much of his knowledge about the area and the Inca history.
Cusco maintains its customs, traditions, mysteries and stories of its legendary past as a city. So make your first day in the capital of the Inca empire unforgettable.
In the evening, enjoy the eclectic dining options available and sample some traditional or fusion dishes. We recommend local restaurants that use local organic products from the region and we will be happy to give you some recommendations.

Cusco - Exploring the Sacred Valley of the Incas - Cusco Hotel

This day we start our tour early, after a delicious breakfast at your hotel, we will pick you up and head towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas, this day we will be surrounded by beautiful landscapes throughout the day. We will first stop in Pisac to visit the famous market and the fascinating archaeological site. After this, we will go to the town of Urubamba to have lunch in an excellent restaurant.
In the afternoon, we will continue our way to the Inca site of Ollantaytambo and take an exciting tour before heading to our last stop in Chinchero. Here, we will visit a beautiful temple and watch how the locals make beautiful textiles by hand which you can also buy if you wish. At the end of the tour we will take you back to Cusco to your hotel so you can find something to eat and get ready for the next day.

Cusco - Huaran - Cancha Cancha - Acopata Camp

This day we will start very early towards our trekking adventure. We will come to pick you up at your hotel and then go in our private transport for approximately 1 hour and a half until we reach Huaran, a small town in the sacred valley of the Incas. This site is the starting point of our trek from Lares to Machu Picchu, once we are there we will accommodate our luggage on the horses and begin to walk with a gradual ascent.
Along the way, you will observe a wide variety of mysterious flora and fauna. The valley is really impressive and it is worth getting your camera out and taking some amazing photos. We will enjoy a delicious lunch in the middle of this walk.
After having lunch and resting enough we will start walking towards our camp, we will pass through the Andean town of Cancha Cancha (3,950 m / 12,959 ft). After having walked a total of around 6 to 7 hours, we will arrive at our camp in Acopata (4,200 m / 13,780 ft). You can relax and enjoy tea time and a tasty dinner prepared by our chefs before spending the night.

Acopata - Pachacutec Pass - Qoyalay Lake - Quiswarani

This morning we will wake up early with a wake-up tea (coca tea) to our tents, to then enjoy a delicious and nutritious breakfast prepared by our chefs.
After having breakfast we will start walking with an ascent towards the highest point which is the Pachacutec Pass (4,700 m / 15,420 ft). At this point we will have incredible views of the snowy peaks and sacred mountains such as Sahuasiray and Chicon.
After having enjoyed and rested, we will continue our walk and begin to descend for approximately 2 hours until we reach Qoyalay (4,140 m / 13,583 ft). Place of our lunch.
After being ready to continue with the walk, we head downhill for 1 hour and a half through the valley, in this valley, you will see llamas and alpacas grazing until we reach our camp in the Andean community of Quiswarani (3,850 m / 12,631 ft). This place still maintains the ancient traditions and customs. You will savor another exquisite dinner before going to rest.

Quiswarani - Cuncani - Lares (Hot Springs) - Ollantaytambo Town

This day will be fantastic! We will start the day with a nutritious and delicious breakfast. We will undertake a 2-hour ascent to Willkikasa (4,400 m / 14,436 ft), the second-highest point of the trip. You are sure to be impressed by the wide view of the Andes mountain range, the beautiful green lakes and the valley that is home to incredible flora and fauna.
Later, we will begin our descent to the community of Cuncani (3,800 m / 12,467 ft) and then continue for another 2 hours approximately to the hot springs Lares. It is here that you will relax in the medicinal hot springs after days of hiking. We will also enjoy our lunch in this place.
This afternoon, we will enjoy a relaxing ride through the mountains in our private transportation to the picturesque town of Ollantaytambo (2792 m / 9160 ft). We will drive for approximately 3 hours until we reach the city to enjoy a nice dinner and rest in a hotel.

Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco Hotel

Exploring the huge and incredible Machu Picchu.

We’ll start with a tasty breakfast at your hotel before heading to the train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. Along the way, you will be surrounded by beautiful mountains and the Urubamba River. Once we arrive at the small town of Aguas Calientes, we will board the bus that will take us to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

Once you have been to the wonder of Machu Picchu, you will enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the most important places, and your guide will tell you all the history of this New Wonder of the World

You will then have more time to explore the site yourself, or you can climb one of the additional mountains, Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, if you have tickets booked in advance. If not, you can walk to the Inca Bridge or Puerta del Sol, from where you will also get an incredible panoramic view of the Inca fortress.

After having explored and enjoyed, it will be time to return to Aguas Calientes. You will have time for lunch at a restaurant of your choice before heading to the station and boarding the train to Ollantaytambo. From there, our private transport will take you back to your accommodation in Cusco. You will be able to enjoy dinner and finally rest after days of walking. We are sure that you will remember this impressive adventure for a lifetime!

Camping Equipment

  • Dining and kitchen tents, tables, chairs, and cooking equipment (all carried by the horses).
  • 1 duffle bag: There, you can carry your personal belongings (including sleeping bag) up to a maximum weight of 6 kg / 14 lbs.
    All duffel bags will be carried by your porters or horses and will only be available at your campsite every day (morning and evening). Any items that are necessary during the hike should be packed in your backpack.
  • Medical Kit: All PMA TRIPS guides have received first aid training. Your tour guide will always have a first aid kit for basic medical situations (traveler’s diarrhea, altitude sickness, cuts, scrapes, etc.) as well as oxygen. If necessary, we will evacuate you from the road as quickly as possible and ensure that you arrive at a clinic for treatment.

Food

  • Meals: PMA TRIPSchefs cook the best dishes in the middle of the mountain. We respect all food restrictions (vegetarian, vegan or special menus are available at no additional cost), so be sure to add the ones you have on your booking form and let your guide know at your briefing. Food is typically served family style.
  • Wake up tea: Every morning at the camp, you will wake up to a cup of hot drink! Our staff will bring the tea to your store.
  • Tea time daily: Happy hour for tea and snacks! Every evening before dinner, our chefs will provide you with popcorn, hot chocolate, cookies, teas, coffee, hot water, etc. After a long day of hiking, you won’t have to wait until dinner to relax.
  • Snacks on the trail daily: Every morning we’ll give you your snack to enjoy it during the walk; our tour leader will provide you a Cloth bag with local fruits, biscuits, chocolate, caramels, etc. We will give this snack to you at the beginning of each day in your cloth bag.
  • Water: From your first lunch to your last breakfast, PMA TRIPSwill provide all the water you need. This water is boiled, filtered, and then cooled before distributing. You must bring personal water bottles and / or camel back. We recommend bringing around 2 liters. You will be able to refill your water at every meal.
  • Products for hygiene: You will be provided with a small towel before each meal to clean your hands.

Transport

Day 1: You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and travel by private transport to Upis, the starting point of the Ausangate peru trek 2 days.
Day 2: Once you complete the tour, we will take you back to the door of your hotel in Cusco.

Cargo Mules: 
The muleteers are responsible for carrying your luggage on days 1 and 2.
The pack mules carry all the camping equipment and your personal travel bag (7 kgs / 15 lbs).
